Some important recommendations on how to use the provided applications (EigenStudio®, EigenUnits and em32setGain) when recording with the em32 Eigenmike® microphone array.

macOS EigenUnits® em64

The EigenUnits-em64 plugins comprise a set of standalone VST3/AAX plugins that can be used in conjunction with mh acoustics em64 Eigenmike® microphone array hardware.

Currently available plugins:
 - EigenUnit-em64-Control: controls PGA level and microphone pad setting of the em64 front-end hardware
 - EigenUnit-em64-Encoder: encodes the sensor signals into 6th-order Eigenbeams (HOA signals, spherical harmonics)

macOS em32setGain

The em32setGain application provides a simple interface to control the Eigenmike® microphone array hardware (PGA gain and calibration). This allows for the recording of calibrated microphone signals at optimum levels with 3rd party DAWs (Don't use em32setGain together with EigenStudio® since the latter one provides its own hardware control). em32setGain is provided for convinience. The preferred way to set the PGA gain and calibration is through EigenStudio® or EigenUnits®

A standalone application to control the Eigenmike® microphone hardware (PGA gain and calibration) and beamformer processing. Functions such as steering, changing beampatterns, recording and monitoring inputs and output, etc. in a very intuitive manner are provided. Plus up to 4th order HOA encoding and very basic audio file editing. Version 2.9.11b and later support the optional MADI daughter board. Note that this version of EigenStudio is currently only compatible with the em32 microphone. Use version 3 for the em64.

EigenStudio® 3 is the completely redesigned successor of EigenStudio 2. It is a standalone application to control the Eigenmike® microphone hardware, and perform HOA encoding and beamformer processing. Functions such as rotation, steering, changing beampatterns, recording and monitoring inputs and outputs, etc. are provided in a very intuitive manner. Note that this is currently only compatible with the em64 Eigenmike microphone. Please keep using EigensStudio 2 for the em32 hardware for now.

Currently available are: A) EigenUnit-em32-Encoder: encodes the sensor signals into 4th order Eigenbeams (HOA signals, spherical harmonics). B) EigenUnit-em32-Beamformer: takes the sensor signals and applies beamforming, with pattern, order, and steering direction control. C) EigenUnit-em32-Control: controls PGA level and sensor calibration via the em32/EMIB hardware through a Firewire or MADI connection. This Eigenmike Interface Box (EMIB) firmware update supports the new optional MADI daughter board (V2) released in September 2019. It is only required for customers who have the optional V2 MADI board.
To install, first download and unzip to obtain the .bin firmware file. Then use the TCATDice Control Panel application "Firmware uploader" and browse to location of .bin file. Then click upload. The firmware update takes about
1 minute. Unfortunately there is no indication of progress. After the firmware update installation, power cycle the EMIB.

TCAT ASIO driver is required to connect mh acoustic's Eigenmike® em32 system to an Intel based Windows computer. Supported versions are Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10.
